ROYALLY COVERED: T-Pain covers Royals

Ever wondered what happened to the auto-tune (singer/robot) master rapper, T-Pain? Well, the Nappy Boy Entertainment CEO (an American record label) just dropped a new cover of 2013 song of the year, Royals.  Though the lyrics scream pro-materialism and it unsurprisingly still sounds like a robot mix, who cares? It’s still currently (and obsessively) on a constant replay in our playlist. We seriously think this cover is Lorde-approved.

FASHION WEEK: What you REALLY need to know.

As the newest fashion season opens in New York City today, we figured you deserve something more than just the runway photos from the shows.

When we think of fashion weeks, glamorous clothes on the runways and the fashion people always come to our minds. Though that’s pretty much part of the fun, we decided to give you a great list of what you really need to know first to get a good picture of what really happens in the most important week in the whole fashion industry.

Basically, a week of fashion is not glamorous all the time. It could even be a dreadful week of keeping up with trends, providing gorgeous pictures of the collections, and perfecting timely reports, news, and forecasts. It could also even mean running around town trying to keep up with the shows schedules and getting at least 3 hours of sleep a day.

Let’s go down to the list and see what you really need to know so you can act like a pro this season!

No Need To Frown
Don’t be a crybaby if you do not have even a single invite. It’s indeed tough to get one. Watch it online instead.
With all the latest innovation (hello, livestreaming) and powers of social media, the fashion world has never been so accessible. Millennials are just the luckiest generation so far, we say. Try The Daily, SHOWstudio and even designer sites showcase their own collections live! Social media is also overflowing with updates from almost everyone in the industry. Follow your favorite designers, editors, models, etc. - not a single dull moment, we swear!

A

After-Parties
Of course, what’s best to cap off a terrific collection than celebrating it with the top models, major designers, editors, and celebrity fans! Unfortunately, you can’t be all drunk and sober in just one designer party coz this isn’t the end of it all. This could mean hopping around to several soirées within one night and do it all again the next day. Our advice? Better forget about #YOLO for the entire week.

Lincoln Center
This is where most of the New York Fashion Week shows happen since 2011. While designers being the creatives who always think outside of the box (or even without the box) are slowly beginning to opt out of presenting on the Upper West Side, (see Alexander Wang in Brooklyn this year) Lincoln Center is still the official venue for all the NYFW action.

Safety Net
While almost all of the shows never begins on time, guests and everyone involved are given just 15 minutes safety net. That way, you won’t go crazy over traffic when headed to an event and knowing that you’re running so late the doors will likely close in your face. It’s still best to come before the time as some designers are strict enough to follow their schedule.

Presentations
We’d honestly love to do a shopping spree this way. “Presentations” is when fashion houses showcase their collection with live models and gives audience (again, invite-only) a chance to see the clothes up close and take a few more moments to observe the details.

Business As Usual
Let’s get real here. Fashion week is about making money. Designers are not only hoping to create something beautiful and innovative; they probably want to pay their bills, too. And, that means sales. Fashion week’s purpose is to let the industry know what’s coming down the pipe, and it’s the buyers’ jobs to select what pieces they believe their customers will lust over. Thank the designers now, but thank buyers later when you’re scoring amazing pieces at your favorite stores and e-shops.

Game Changers
One of the very essence of fashion week is showcasing the best creations of highly talented designers. These are those special, break-the-mold, truly inspired moments that are hard to predict, but when they happen, they become part of fashion history. The Rick Owens step-dance show, the many amazing Louis Vuitton sets, Andrej Pejic in a Gaultier wedding gown, and the first plus-size line to debut at Lincoln Center last fall are just a few recent examples that stand out for us.

Ruth Finley, the Creator of the Fashion Calendar
This is defintely one of those very rare times it feels great to name drop. Only because the name we’re dropping deserves all the love from the fashion indusry. Ruth Finley is the woman behind the fashion schedule since 1941! Yes, that’s more than 60 years of Fashion Calendar.

Off-the-Runway Style
Aside from the amazing clothes that go down the runway, off-the-runway style has become part of the things to look forward to in this whole week of fashion. Nowadays, the style on the street is almost as noteworthy as the looks spotted on the models so if you’re going to any show, make sure your look is lens-ready for the photographers.

Europe Is Up Next
Once NYFW comes to a close, it’s off to London, Milan, and Paris, in that order. Together, this makes for one inspiring, exhilarating, exhausting four-week fashion extravaganza. (Refinery29)

Marilyn Monroe for Chanel No. 5

Imagine your very own prestigious ad campaign of an extremely world-known brand decades after your death. Yes, we could dream. Unfortunately, that’s not gonna happen unless your Marilyn Monroe or someone as iconic as her!

Chanel has tapped Marilyn as the 2013 face of the perfume - fifty one years after her death. Beat that!

Apparently, Chanel discovered an unreleased recording of the actress discussing her nocturnal habits, and that famous quote telling the world she wore nothing but Chanel No. 5 in bed! Watch the video below to hear the original recording.

And oh, a bonus tip, if you wanna get your very own Chanel No. 5, head on to Abrienne & Klair and get up to 50% off USA authentic designer perfumes! You’re welcome!

Staying Conscious

vickyherrera:

Staying Grounded in a Big City or Busy World

by Madisyn Taylor

For a more grounded life, choose not to get caught up in the fast-paced world around you.

1. Live simply and live deliberately. By choosing not to get caught up in the details of this fast-paced world, you are doing your part to slow down the . You will also discover that you have more time to enjoy being alive.

2. Stay in touch with yourself. Soul searching, meditation, and journaling are just a few of the many activities you can take part in to stay aware and learn as much as you can about your emotions, reactions, likes, dislikes, dreams, and fears. Having a solid sense of self gives you a firm foundation for living in this world.

3. Support or teach others as often as you can. This can help you form connections with people while also giving you an opportunity to make the world a better place.

4. Consciously choose what you will allow into your being. The media bombards us with visions of hate, war, and pain. Be judicious about what you read, watch, and listen to.

5. Acknowledge the beauty that resides around you. Whether you live in a sprawling metropolis or a stereotypical suburb, there are natural and man-made wonders just waiting to be discovered by you.

6. Nurture your ties to your tribe. If you don’t have one, create a community that you can belong to. Modern life can be isolating. When you have a tribe, you have a circle that you are a part of. Its members – loved ones, friends, or neighbors - can be a source of support, caring, guidance, and companionship.

7. See the larger picture. Remember that the way that you choose to live is not the only way to live. Widen your perspective by exploring other modes of being through research, travel, and discussion.

8. Embrace the challenges that life presents to you, and challenge yourself often. After a time, even the most exciting jobs or lifestyles can seem routine. Never stop assimilating new knowledge about whatever you are doing, and your life will never seem dull.

9. Move your body. In this busy world, it can be easy to live a sedentary life. Movement reacquaints us with our bodies and connects us to the earth in a visceral way. It also restores our vitality.

10. Make time for stillness, silence, and solitude. The world can be noisy, and we are subject to all kinds of noises nearly every waking hour. We are also often “on the go” and unable to relax. Being alone in a peaceful place and making time for quiet can help you stay in touch with yourself.

BBM for Android & iOS

photo image1_zps64715602.png

Before iPhones blew up on the cellular scene, it was the Blackberry that was ripe and fresh for the picking. Now that we’ve moved on to more advanced devices (and features like FaceTime, WeChat, Viber, etc), we admittedly have a (very slight) nostalgic side for the Blackberry and its convenient BBM messaging abilities.

Luckily, we don’t have to yearn for the good ol’ days much longer! Blackberry has created a BBM application available for download on iPhone and Andriod interfaces now! Time to visit your App Stores tech and chat lovers! Um, who says we can’t have it all? We’re already mentally drafting our first messages to our BFFs! (Refinery29)

Katy Perry’s new album is live-streaming HERE….PLAY, REPEAT, SHUFFLE, REPEAT!!!

Enough with the leaks already! Katy Perry’s Prism is streaming in all of its full, deluxe edition glory right now! Verdict, Prism is “Unconditionally Legendary”! We particularly like that her love for independent music has come across somewhere in between her latest tracks without forgetting pop dance genre all together! What do you think?

South Sartorial Girl #4: Bag Designer turned Jewelry Designer, Lala Garcia

When I meet people with great style and personality, I almost always compulsively want to know their story and feature them as our South Sartorial Girl. That’s exactly what happened when I met Lala of Lala Garcia Manila and saw her gorgeous jewelries. Her young, bubbly and classy vibe reflects on her every piece of jewelry. We instantly clicked and I can’t wait to share with you what this lady has to say about her brand, inspirations and philosophy (they’re so good, they’re “tweetable”)!

image

Tell us something about you and how you came up with your brand.

I graduated with a degree in Bachelor of Arts, Major in Organizational Communication at De La Salle University. Soon after, I worked in the banking industry for about 5 years. In between those employments, and even during each stint, I found myself enjoying some business on the side.

In 2010, when I was already full-time in business, my husband enrolled me in a Bag Making course at the Fashion Institute of the Philippines to achieve my bag-designing ambitions. I felt I wasn’t yet a bona-fide bag designer until I had formal lessons. I wanted to hone my creative skills and be able to execute more of my ideas without the pressure of mass producing each design just to comply with my manufacturers’ minimums. By the year 2011, I was already selling my very own creations under my self-named brand.

Then came 2012, and I was restless to pursue yet another passion/ambition in life in as much as to fulfill a childhood fantasy of becoming an “alahera” (jeweler) just like my mom back in the days. Though she did it only as a side-line while she was in the corporate world herself, as a young girl, she adorned me with her jewelry, as well as taught me how to make different fashionable pieces out of beads, yarn, etc. Since then, I just could not leave home without wearing one. With that, I realized it was something closer to my heart and would perhaps make me a happier businesswoman! With each piece still being uniquely and carefully handcrafted, I could also continue to take pride in the Filipino talent. My evolving and free-flowing (yet reasonably priced) designs would also allow more ladies to actually acquire and wear some bespoke jewelry of their own.

In barely 2 months from launching the line, I became one of ZALORA Philppines’ first retail partners… And soon after, with its sister company LAZADA Philippines too. As you might already know about them, both are now amongst the most well-known and reputable e-commerce sites in the country. So, boy am I just glad to have grabbed such opportunity as early as then! They carry most of my best-selling designs and a few more select pieces which are unique and exclusive to each only. I guess my family and close friends were right about talking me in to pursuing this career then, especially when THE Ms. Tess Prieto-Valdes invited me to her house some time last year as well and bought a total of 16 hefty pieces all to herself! It was only then actually, that I realized the true potential of my brand. I was so happy she liked a lot of my designs, I gave her the last canvas bag I sewed as an instant freebie!

Tessa Prieto-Valdes, Regine Tolentino, & Anne Curtis Smith

What’s your work philosophy?

I make sure to always add some personal touch to any task, no matter how simple it is.

When I’m not working on Lala Garcia MANILA…

I’m either catching up on me-time at a nail spa/salon or would rather be spending quality time with my husband, family, &/or friends.

What’s your favorite South Sartorial piece/s and why?

An instant favorite South Sartorial piece of mine is the haltered maxi dress! I just love how elegant it looks (be it with the Floral or the Peacock prints) & how easy & carefree it can be worn from day time to date nights.

Here’s Lala obviously feeling torn between our Maxi Dresses.  She even posted this on her page and got great responses. The winner was our Floral Maxi Dress! ;)

We plead guilty for loving fashion and for not updating our blog for a month now. On a brighter side, we got a new girl crush we’re sure you’ll all love! She’s a sweetheart and we’ve worked with her in our previous collections.  She’s basically a friend of the brand and we’re proud of her! Check out what this girl has to say and you’ll love her more! Meet Kay Arias of The Makeup Rum!

Tell us how you got your job.

I’ve always wanted to be someone in the beauty industry. At first I thought I was gonna be a hairstylist. But it was the makeup that fascinated me. “Love at first applies.” So I aspired myself to become one after high school, But I was told to get a degree first and I’ll be able to get whatever I want after college.  And so I’ve decided to take Nursing, I know it’s quite popular back in the days. Though I think it’s the only excuse for the answer, “Coz I’m not good with Math.” Haha! Kidding aside, I finished the 2 degrees BS in Midwifery and BS in Nursing. Then I got my first Nursing job in a government hospital then after 8 months I enrolled in a makeup school, working and studying for 3months every day. Started to do part time makeup job in 2011. Then finally took the risk of quitting nursing career over makeup in 2012, by far best career decision I made. But hey, I loved nursing 2nd best job ever, it’s just that I loved makeup first.

imageWe’re in love with this shot! :)

What skill or habit do you think is vital for success?

Eat healthy as much as possible, coz if you do, you can work more efficiently.

Sleep, when you have the time.

Listen attentively.

Be very very patient.

imageGetting all giddy on her interview!

Hands down, best professional advice you ever got.

Never stop learning.

Your Working Girl Essentials? / Technology of choice?

I wanna say my iPhone, but I broke it. =)) So any smartphone would do.

A small planner, good camera and mobile wifi.

What moments on the job do you find most rewarding?

When people recognize my work then it gives birth to another project then another one and it goes on.

image

Who’s your working girl inspiration?

My friend Pia Reyes, she’s the lean and mean makeup machine. Haha!

What’s your favorite thing to wear to work?

For weddings, I wear a dress and a cardigan.

For photoshoots, sometimes I wear shorts and a comfy top.

On the set, a pair of pants to get rid of mosquitoes and a comfy top.

imageHere’s Kay on set in the indie film, Ang Nawawala.  I remember her talking about her experience as one of the official Makeup Artists of this film.  This girl has indeed a long way to go! :)

What’s your favorite South Sartorial piece/s so far?

The Barbara top is so comfortable to wear, that’s my fave top right now. Then I’d also love to have the Adriana dress, but I don’t when/where to wear that yet. =)

imageDid we mention we get really kilig when girls wear South Sartorial on their special occasions? Yes, this is one kilig moment! Haha!
